Setting the pace
The Hawkes Bay team have successfully completed the Global Corporate Challenge (GCC), the world's largest corporate health initiative!
During the first week of August, Rebekah Atkinson representing team "Walkie Talkies" won the gumboot of shame, and Carissa Livingstone representing team "Proclaimers" won the cup of the week.
GCC is the an initiative developed specifically for the workplace, engaging over 150,000 participants from 1,200 organisations and from 65 countries.
This year staff from our Hawkes Bay office launched into the challenge forming intra-office teams to heighten the competitiveness level. Staff have been hooked up to their pedometers 24/7 - yes even sleep walking is counted - and enter their daily step count into the GCC website which collates information to track team and personal stats, distance covered and cal/kJ burnt. An office leader board is produced and fortnightly the leading team are awarded the coveted 'most improved team' cup - whilst the slackers receive the pink gumboot of shame!
The challenge kicked off in May and runs right through until September - a total of 111 days of walking. In 2010, 80 tonnes of weight was lost overall by all participants in GCC - so a very healthy initiative for the whole office and some new summer wardrobes required for those who lose the most weight!
